FL Studio free trial — what is included & how to start

FL Studio has a free trial with no time limit and all features enabled. The only limit: you cannot reopen saved projects. Everything else, including audio export, works fully.

FL Studio's free trial is one of the most generous in DAW software. The trial is the full All Plugins Edition with no time limit — every feature, every plugin, unlimited exports.

The one restriction: you cannot reopen saved projects in the trial. You CAN save and export. Work around this by exporting stems (audio) of your work before closing FL Studio.

Download and start the free trial

  • 1

    Download the installer

Get flstudio_win64_25.2.5.5319.exe from the download page. The installer is both the trial and the licensed version — same file.

  • 2

    Install and open

Run the installer and open FL Studio. It starts in trial mode automatically. No account required.

  • 3

    Start making music

Everything is available. Open a template: File → New from template. Try the Channel Rack with some instruments.

  • 4

    Export your work before closing

Before closing a session, export your audio: File → Export → WAV/MP3. This way you have your work even if you cannot reopen the .flp project.

Activate a paid licence

Once you buy FL Studio from image-line.com:

  • In FL Studio: HelpUnlock FL Studio
  • Enter your Image-Line account email and click Unlock
  • FL Studio downloads your licence and activates — no serial key needed
  • Your licence is tied to your Image-Line account, not to the PC

Free trial questions

How long does the FL Studio free trial last?
There is no time limit. The FL Studio trial never expires. You can use it indefinitely. The only limitation is that you cannot reopen saved .flp project files.
Can I record audio in the free trial?
Yes, with Producer Edition features. The trial is the full All Plugins Edition, which includes audio recording. Connect a microphone or instrument, set up ASIO, and record directly into the playlist.
Do I lose my work when the trial ends?
The trial never ends — but you cannot reopen saved .flp files. Always export audio (File → Export → WAV) before closing your session. If you later buy a licence, you can then reopen the .flp files you saved during the trial.
