FL Studio for Windows
Step-by-step

How to Install FL Studio on Windows — ASIO Setup & First Launch

Use the official 64‑bit installer, configure ASIO for low latency, and play your first sound in minutes. This page keeps it short, safe, and beginner‑friendly.

Before you start

System

64‑bit Windows 10/11, ≥ 2 GB free space (SSD recommended), and a modern multi‑core CPU.

Audio

Have FL Studio ASIO or your interface’s ASIO driver ready. Headphones help avoid feedback.

Power & drivers

Enable a High performance power plan, close background apps, and update your audio drivers.

Installation steps

  1. Download the installer: click “Download for Windows” to get flstudio_win64_25.2.5.5319.exe from the official CDN.
  2. Run the installer: double‑click the file, allow SmartScreen if the publisher is Image‑Line, accept the license, and keep default paths.
  3. Choose components: keep core program and optional desktop/start menu shortcuts; you can add them later if unsure.
  4. Finish and launch: after setup, launch FL Studio. If asked about audio, continue to ASIO configuration below.

ASIO configuration for low latency

Driver selection

Open Options → Audio settings. Choose FL Studio ASIO (good default) or your audio interface’s native ASIO driver for best performance.

Buffer size

Start at 256–512 samples. If you hear clicks, increase the buffer; for live input, try lower values if stable.

Sample rate

Use 44.1–48 kHz for general use. Keep project and driver rates consistent to avoid resampling artifacts.

Tip: In Windows Sound settings, disable audio “enhancements” on your output device to reduce glitches.

First launch & license

Sign in or import license

Log into your Image‑Line account to unlock your edition, or import your license file. Otherwise continue in trial mode for testing.

Play a test sound

Create a new project, enable the metronome, press Play, and confirm clean audio from your chosen outputs.

Next: set up plugins and scan your VST3 folders in Plugin Manager.

VST3 folders (Windows)

Use the default VST3 path: C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\VST3. Keep plugins 64‑bit. After installation, run a Rescan in the Plugin Manager and avoid mixing 32‑bit bridges unless necessary.

Quick fixes

Installer blocked

Keep antivirus enabled but verify the digital signature: right‑click the file → Properties → Digital Signatures (Image‑Line).

No sound

Switch to FL Studio ASIO or your interface’s ASIO; check output routing; increase buffer if you hear pops.
